The course goes along the watercourse and crosses the JR Hachiko Line railway. Then it divides into two courses. The right one will take you to the main gate of Saikoji Temple. The gate has a belfry which harmonizes well with the bamboo bush behind it. The hiking course crosses Tsukigawa River again at Ooterabashi Bridge and goes along the river to Yanagimachi Bridge. From Yanagibashi Bridge, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery around Taishoji Temple , which has the wonderful background of the of Chichibu mountains and hamlets in the hills. The course now turns back to Ogawamachi Station. The sidewalk of Route 254 will take you to Saitama Craft Center. At the center you can see various kinds of traditional craft displays. You can also try making the Japanese Paper for yourself. This area has been call Washi-no-Sato, or the hometown of handmade paper. It has a long history of paper production. During the Edo Period, or Tokugawa Shogunate Era, there were over 700 producers of paper here. Even today this craft tradition remains, and some craftsmen continue to produce paper by traditional methods. This hiking course will give you a pleasant look at old paper craftsmen's houses. Finally the course it crosses Kabutogawa River and ends at Ogawa-machi Station. |
